It was 1929 when the Netherlands were represented for the first time at the Miss Universe pageant. The pageant was held in Galveston, Texas, USA. Jopie Koopman form Zaandam was one of the few lucky girls from Europe to pas the atlantic ocean by boat as she was in the top of the Miss Europe pageant earlier that year.
The pageant was also won for the first time by a European woman, Lisl Goldarbeiter from Austria.
