While 2024 is till in progress we already have for you the first 10 questions for 2025. Sanne Schulz, Miss Eco Netherlands 2025 has ben selected by the new Miss Eco Netherlands organization to represent our country at he upcoming Miss Eco International.
After 12 Months of Beauty and the Vicky Foundation, the Miss Eco Netherlands organization has a new organization team. We are excited to follow the new team and their new queen on their journey for 2025.
Here are the 10 questions we asked Sanne, so we can get to now her a little bit better.
Who is Sanne Schulz?
I’m a 21-year-old pharmaceutical student at the University of Utrecht. As a child I already loved beauty and experiments, and I still remember the days when I made my own lip balm using the heater in my room to melt the oils. I am ever so grateful to have the opportunity to still be engaging in both science and beauty. Besides doing experiments, I love reading. A good story, preferably romance, can help me relax by focussing on something else than work or school. However, I can have some difficulty with laying the book down which causes some nights with little sleep and a finished book.

How and when did you enter the world of pageantry?
It may be a cliche, but when I was little, I had always wanted to be either a model or a princess. But when I got older my priorities changed. I became a caretaker of my mom, developed an eating disorder (ARFID), and started my study. This al led me to believe I couldn’t or wasn’t enough to participate in pageants, thus I never applied. Luckily, I got help and learned how to manage my ARFID, which made me feel like I could do anything I wanted, the only thing I had to do was try. So, when I saw then applications for Miss Beauty of Flevoland 2023 were open, I didn’t hesitate to sign up. If I can battle my eating disorder, why wouldn’t I be able to follow the dreams of the little me? I fell in love with pageants that year, signed up for Miss Aura Netherlands 2024, which brought me here, to Miss Eco Netherlands 2025.

How do you prepare for the international pageant?
At the moment I am really busy with shoots and planning. I’m working with a local designer to create my ECO dress, which need some meetings and fittings. Besides that, I signed up for some volunteer work. For example, I will be helping during the Almeerse Nieuwjaarsduik and I signed up for the volunteering program of the WNF. Lastly, I am scheduling some sessions with trainers to perfect my catwalk and I am practicing my walk a lot.

What is your contribution to the preservation of our environment?
Over the years, I have started to get more conscious of the environment and on how I can help to the preservation of this. In the past, I often took long showers where I could just stand there for 45 minutes. Now, my showers are not nearly as long, not even when I wash my hair, which can take some time. I also switched to using more eco-friendly products. Besides using less water and switching to eco-friendly products, I try to repurpose everything. Giftbags become storage and items I don’t use anymore are gifted to my nieces and nephews. At least 50% of my closet are clothes passed on by family or is bought by second-hand clothing sites such as Vinted. So, I would say I contribute to the preservation of our environment by decreasing my water usage, switching to eco-friendly products, and by shopping second hand and repurposing which decreases waste.

What are you looking forward the most to, to see in Egypt?
I really love learning about different cultures, so I cannot wait to meet all the other girls and learn about their culture while also sharing a bit of the Dutch culture. This year the finals are in Alexandria, which has some beautiful monuments which I hope to visit!
What beauty queen, nationally or internationally is your biggest example and why?
I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Alisha van den Berg over the last year, in which she has become one of my biggest role models. Alisha was crowned Miss fashion 2024, which opened the door to Miss Lumiere International World, where she brought the subtitle Miss Charm back home. Not only did she do this while being the smallest in the room, 155cm, she did it while unknowingly being pregnant. At just 22 years old, she has her own agency, clothing brand, is she the national director of 5 different pageants, and did she start her own family. I can do nothing but look up to her, and I hope to make her proud in Egypt this April.

Do you think a beauty pageant is still contemporary?
I think beauty pageants have changed over the years. Many people I know didn’t approve when I told them I signed up for Miss Beauty of Flevoland in 2022. They thought it was a way of portraying woman as an object, and some people still think that is the case. I love proving to these people that beauty pageants nowadays celebrate the beauty of women and can help the self-image of a girl. I have grown as a person and am still growing due to what I have learned during these beauty pageants.

If you would promote Dutch ECO tourism internationally, what would you show the World?
I really enjoy doing treasure hunts, quizzes, and escape rooms. I am not great in memorizing, so I learn stuff by doing things like pubquizzes. I know lots of other people enjoy doing these types of activities, no matter their age. Thus, I would use quizzes to promote Dutch ECO tourism. We have lots of beautiful nature reserves, such as the Oostvaardersplassen, but do you know how or when it originated?

If there would be a statue of yourself placed in world, where should they place it and why?
I was born and raised in Almere, with a big part of my family still living here. I have moved to Utrecht for university, but I visit home whenever I have the chance. And even though not everyone thinks highly of Almere, this is and will always be my home. Therefore, I could not think of a better place to place a statue of myself then my home city, Almere.

What about Sanne in 10 years?
I am still young and there are a lot of unknowns, I will just see where life takes me and take it from there. But I do dream to have a family of my own someday, so I hope that I will have found my forever person in 10 years time; I am a hopeless romantic after all. Secondly, I hope to have finished my bachelor’s and master’s degree by then, maybe I will even be finished with my PhD.
