10 questions for, Miss Supranational Netherlands 2024, Bo Grooten

Miss Supranational Netherlands always make a huge impact at the international finals. This year was no exception. Bo Grooten was crowned at a fashion event by BaroQco and Icon Beauty in Almere.
But her road towards Miss Supra already started last year, when she made her debut at the national beauty pageants in the Netherlands.
Our dutch giant (1.87cm) made a huge impassion in Poland, just missing the top but for the first time the dutch supra made the finals of the Supra Talent award. The dutch national directors for Miss Supranational, 12 Months of Beauty, received a lot of compliments for their contestant this year from the Miss Supra organization.

Although we know her already quit good, let’s ask Bo 10 questions.

Who is Bo Grooten?
Hi there! I’m Bo Grooten, a 23-year-old living in Coevorden. I work in sales and proudly hold the title of Miss Supranational Netherlands 2024. When I’m not busy with crowns and sashes, you’ll find me in my book club, where we dive into great reads and even better cheese (because let’s be honest, a book without cheese is like a queen without a crown). I love hanging out with my friends, baking banana breads, working out, and modeling whenever I get the chance. I’m also on a new adventure, starting my own business as a nail tech—so you could say I’m keeping my fingers busy in more ways than one!

When and why did you enter the world of beauty pageants?
My journey into beauty pageants began in 2022 when I was scouted for Miss Beauty of Drenthe 2023. Honestly, I was more of a shy wallflower than a confident queen, but with a little nudge (okay, more like a push) from my supportive boyfriend, I decided to dive in. The experience was a game-changer for me; I came out of my shell and realized that I deserved to be heard. I ended up placing 4th in the competition, which was beyond my wildest dreams.
The thrill of personal growth and the joy of being part of something bigger led me to the Miss Grand Netherlands pageant in 2023. The pageant’s message of advocating against war and violence resonated deeply with me. I was honored to represent Drenthe and even more thrilled to be the 3rd runner-up nationally! And now, here I am, proudly wearing the crown of Miss Supranational Netherlands 2024.

You grew into the perfect Miss Supranational Netherlands 2024 over the years. What did you do to achieve this national title?
Thank you so much! It’s been a journey of personal growth, hard work, and many trips to the gym. I focused on becoming the best version of myself—mentally, physically, and emotionally. I also worked on my public speaking, polished my runway walk, and created a strong platform against domestic violence. I also made sure to surround myself with people who believed in me, and that support system was crucial. Achieving this title was the result of dedication, passion, and never giving up on my dreams.

How did you prepare for the international pageant?
Preparing for the international stage is like preparing for the Olympics—except with more glitter! I put in countless hours perfecting my stage presence, fine-tuning my communication skills, and ensuring my wardrobe was flawless. But most importantly, I focused on building my platform against domestic violence, “Brave and Loud.” Sharing my story and connecting with others who’ve experienced similar struggles was the heart of my preparation. I wanted to go beyond the glitz and make a real impact.

What is the difference between Bo before Miss Supranational 2024 and Bo after Miss Supranational 2024, and what will you take from the international pageant for the rest of your life?
Before Miss Supranational, Bo was a girl with big dreams but maybe a bit too shy to fully chase them. Now, I’m a woman who knows her worth and isn’t afraid to make her voice heard on the world stage. The experience has taught me the power of resilience, the importance of staying true to oneself, and the joy of inspiring others. I’ll carry these lessons with me forever—and maybe pass them on during my nail appointments!

Tell us about your national costume and what it represents to you.
My national costume is called the “Orange Warrior.” Orange is more than just a color for us Dutch; it’s a symbol of unity, pride, and celebration. But I’m not here to conquer the world with weapons; I’m armed with flowers which we are famous for, and I want to spread smiles, not conflict. My costume represents the strength, positivity, and peaceful spirit of the Dutch people.

You have a very strong platform. Can you tell us more about it?
My platform, “Brave and Loud,” is a community for those who have faced or are facing domestic violence. It’s a space where people can share their stories, find support, and, most importantly, know that they’re not alone. We focus on breaking the taboo around this issue and empowering victims to speak out. The message is simple but powerful: Be brave, be loud, and let’s stand together against domestic violence. No one should ever feel ashamed of what they’ve experienced—we’re stronger together.

What color describes you best, and what does it say about you?
Like my hair color: Orange, of course! It represents creativity, optimism and it’s a color that stands out in a crowd, which is exactly what I aim to do, whether on stage or in my daily life. Plus, it’s a reminder to always approach life with positivity and a smile, no matter what challenges come my way.

Will we see Bo again in another beauty pageant, and if yes, which one and why?
Never say never! Beauty pageants have a huge impact on your life, from the people you meet to the lessons you learn. It’s a big commitment and requires many sacrifices, but I can honestly say it’s been worth every moment. I’m curious to see how Miss Cosmo develops in the coming years—who knows, you might just see me there!

Do you have a message for girls who want to participate in beauty pageants?
Absolutely: Go for it! Don’t let self-doubt hold you back. Pageants are more than just a competition; they’re a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. You’ll learn so much about yourself, make lifelong friends, and maybe even change the world in your own way. So, be brave, be loud, and never be afraid to shine. After all, you never know when your next step might lead you to a crown…

Thank you Bo for these great answer and thank you for making pageants great in the Netherlands!! You made us so proud
