Can we say that the slogan ” Niet meer van deze tijd” (“No longer of these times”), thrown into the world by the formers owner of Miss Nederland didn’t do the job they hoped for? We are not sure, as we have no clue what the strategy of this idea was and what they wanted to achieve. The media, who always tell the world what they want us to read, published mostly that pageantry not only in the Netherlands, but also in the whole world didn’t exist any more. Well if that was the idea of Miss Nederland, that didn’t work out. If they would have looked more carefully in the history of Pageantry in the Netherlands or even the Miss Nederland/Miss Holland, they could have read that many, many tried to kill pageantry, but no one ever succeeded.
We can honestly say that pageantry still changes to life’s of many young people in a positive way, so pageantry is certainly of this time!
We have to admit that we were very much afraid that the title of Miss Nederland would disappear, and we hoped that someone would try to rescue it. And the rescue came in the name of Milou Verhoeks, owner of the biggest pageant in the Netherlands, Miss Beauty of the Netherlands.
We are sure that Milou Verhoeks, who already gained the Miss Universe franchise in 2024, is going to make Miss Nederland great again. Internally a lot changed already in the organization of the Miss Beauty of the Netherlands.
The Miss Beauty originally crowned Miss Earth Netherlands but since this year they will crown the new Miss Global Netherlands, and Miss Earth Netherlands will be crowned among the finalists of the Miss Nederland pageant. The two pageants will be separated from one another and have their own activities.
The provincial titles of Miss Beauty will be crowned at the “new” provincial pageants. So the provincial pageants are back! The representatives of Miss Nederland and the Miss Beauty are all crowned and chosen from the provincial pageants.
The last time this was the case, was in 2012, when Robin and Stefan from Miss Holland Now were the provincial directors of Miss Drenthe. And they were very successful as provincial directors, as Miss Drenthe 2011, Jill de Robles, won the Miss Nederland World crown and in 2012 ” their” queen, Lauraine van der Werff became a top 6 finalist. Unfortunately, we were not invited to follow-up of “our” Miss Drenthe.
Although the Netherlands “only” has 12 provincies, there will be 19 finalists for the Miss Nederland 2026 title.
Let’s see who the 19 lucky girls are:
Miss Groningen 2026: Melissa Bottema (SF Miss Intercontinental 2022, top 10 Miss Grand International 2023)
Miss Friesland 2026: Kyra Chin
Miss Drenthe 2026: Sam Muis

Miss Midden Brabant 2026: Sanne Leinenga
Miss Limburg 2026: Isabella Boels
Miss Dutch Caibbean 2026: Sharifa Serwaa
In this group we see two girls who already represented the Netherlands internationally. Melissa Bottema represented our country at Miss Intercontinental 2022 where she became a semi-finalist. But Melissa made dutch pageantry history in 2023 when she made the top 10 at one of the hardest and biggest pageants in the world: Miss Grand International. The current Miss Universe Netherlands, Nathalie Yasmin, also was a Miss Grand Queen in 2021, and made the top 20.
Miriam de Jonge became a semi-finalist at the Miss Globe Pageant in 2024.
Christianne Ramos, Miss Randstad, who was born in the Philippines, represented that country at Miss World University 2011 and at the Miss Charity Queen International 2015.
The upcoming months we will follow the girls and see who makes the biggest impression on us.
