European Friday

European Friday

Our second European Friday brings us back to 1972, when Miss Holland was Jenny ten Wolde and she represented the Netherlands at two pageants: Miss Europe and Miss Universe.
This picture is taken on the beaches of Estoril in Portugal.
The Miss Europe 1972 pageant was held on June 21st in Estorip, Portugal. The winner came from Germany: Monica Sarp with Miss Sweden, Elisabeth Ire Johnson ( Miss Scandinavia 1973 (1st ru)) and Miss Austria, Ursula Pacher (Miss  Universe 1972 and Miss World 1972 (3rd ru) comping in second and third.
Miss Malta, Mary Ann Best came in fourth and thats the only time they placed in the official Miss Europe pageant.
On this beautiful black and white picture we see our lovely Miss Holland, Jenny, in the middle in the front waving to the audience.
Jenny didn’t make the top at this pageant. Maybe it was therefore that the Miss Holland committee tried to send another girls to the Miss Universe 1972 pageant. A judge decided that all arguments of the Miss Holland committee were unlawful and so Jenny went to Puerto Rico to represent our country at the Miss Universe pageant instead of Monica Strottman, who was already packing her bags.

On the colored picture below: The newly crowned Miss Europe sitting on her thrown. At the back on the right: Miss Austria, left: Miss Sweden. At the front at the left, Miss Malta and right Miss England. Behind Miss sharp is Miss Europe 1971 from Turkey.
We from Miss Holland now have to sat that only the winner looks really happy…..
