12 Months of Beauty is the organization behind Miss Grand Netherlands, Supermodel Netherlands, Supermodel Netherlands, Mister Global Netherlands and Miss and Mister Supranational Netherlands.
This year the organization started an online Beauty Pageant to select the dutch representatives for Miss Grand, Miss Supranational and Supermodel International.
After many assignments and challenges there are still 6 girls that made it to the finals and have a change to wear one of the BaroQco crowns.
We would like to get to know these 6 great girls and let them introduce themselves to the world.
Number 4, Romy Stuik
Who are you?
Hi there! I am Romy. A super enthusiastic and ambitious young woman. I just moved to Amsterdam, a city that matches with my ambitions and international oriented personality. After studying fashion management, I felt like I wanted more of a challenge, and now I am almost done with my bachelor Neurobiology. This need for challenges and adventures is quite a central theme in my life. I love to challenge myself, see how far I can push myself to make the most out of life and of myself as a person. I Love travelling alone, doing adventurous sports and going on spontaneous trips. Next to my education I work as a freelance model and hostess and as a radio host. I am vegan, which is also an important part of my life. I find it important to harm our planet and the animals as little as possible during my life. I try to inspire others to also become more conscious about their impact on our planet and its inhabitants. Therefore, I volunteer for organizations as Bont voor Dieren, The save movement and Animal Rights.
When and how did you enter the world of beauty pageants?
When I was 18, I was working as a salesperson on the streets. Over there I was asked to help out on a big fashion conference, and here I was asked for my first photoshoots. I was 20 when I was scouted for my first beauty pageant. I ended up as a finalist, and even though I didn’t win anything, I felt immediately that this world of beauty pageants suited me and my dreams. After my first regional pageant, I participated in a few other national pageants, and in 2017 I was chosen to represent the Netherlands during my first international pageant in Italy. I got the chance to represent the Netherlands a couple times more internationally, which brought me to china, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and many more countries. I became second runner up in a competition in Cambodia and 1st runner up in the Philippines. I fell in love with travelling and being able to use my voice to inspire local people. The whole experience made me super humble, and aware of the impact we can have on other people. Therefore I find it even more important to use my voice for the right purpose and to set the right example by ‘doing right’.
Can you tell us about your experience in the 12months of beauty online pageant?
The online pageant from 12 months of beauty has been a real journey so far! We started in the midst of the lockdown, which challenged all of us. I am super grateful to be one of the six finalists that got to do the whole journey. The challenges really asked for a lot of effort, creativitiy and pushing your boundaries. For every challenge I pushed myself to be more creative, more daring, and more purposeful. I contacted people and organizations I would normally not call, which taught me that you can do so much more than you think, if you just take a leap of faith and go for it.
I also noticed growth within myself, in a way I did not expect before. I am becoming more authentic and vulnerable, in real life and also on social media. I am learning that by being authentic, people relate to me much more, and I am truly able to inspire people. I am incredibly grateful that the online pageant helped me realize this.
What’s your life’s motto and how do you live your life by it?
I actually have two life’s motto’s: “Do right, and the rest will follow”. I believe in inspiring by example. I feel the urgency of our planet and humanity for change in the world. We need to change the way we think, eat, and treat each other in order to prevent our planet and humanity from destruction. I believe in setting the right example and embodying my beliefs. I life according to my values and by sharing this view on life and the way I try to live in harmony with humanity and our planet, I inspire others.
The second motto I live by is “grabbing all the opportunities in life.” I feel like most people nowadays are pretty scared when it comes to following there heart, career changes and doing new things. They are scared because they don’t know how it will work out, if they can do it, or for others peoples opinions. But I believe that life presents these opportunities for a reason. A little risk is part of the deal. Life is way too short to not make the most of it and giving it all a try. By seeing and grabbing many opportunities that were given to me, the most amazing things have happened. I’ve met amazing people, developed experience in a lot of different work fields, made the most amazing solotravels, and found out what I truly find important in life.
How will your life be in 10 years from now?
In 10 year from now, I will have found a way to make an impact on a lot of peoples life’s. Maybe through a book, through giving lectures, or through scientific research. I hope to inspire many people to take better care of our planet and our humanity. Next to that I want to help people deal with the rollercoaster that life can be. I want to help them see opportunities and live life to the fullest.
I also plan on opening a concept store, where I want to sell art and fashion from starting artists, and I want to employ people with a distance from society, like refugees and single mothers. I want the store to be a space full of opportunities and interesting stories, where people can come to get inspired, connected and contribute to a good cause.
Next to that I hope to have a husband and kids, with who I want to live abroad, or travel the world.
Romy, we wish you all the best of luck.
